This project is exhibited in the 17th Venice Biennale International Architecture Exhibition - Hong Kong Collateral Event ‘Redistribution: Land, People, and Environment’.
The installation aims to provide a new perspective to imagine the new Central Business District in Kowloon East of Hong Kong. The use of bamboo in this installation not only reflects the unique construction techniques and sustainable choice of materials in usual practice in Hong Kong but also symbolises the large scale urban renewal project in Kowloon East with a sustainable development as core objective.
An interactive digital visualisation is incorporated to the installation to show the futuristic urban scenarios based on specific topics and expected growth of Kowloon East.
Extracting from the word “Bamboo”, the installation - “BAM! City” also carries a meaning of Build-A-Model City that hopes to drive further discussion about the many possible otherness for a future sustainable CBD.
